Which bar keepers friend

The OG Bar Keepers Friend product is a scouring powder , intended to be sprinkled on a dirty surface and scrubbed off with a damp cloth. The soft cleanser, by contrast, is a light and almost frothy solution, ready for use straight out of the bottle on truly any mess at all. The soft cleanser from BKF made quick scrubbing work of the whole thing, resulting in a surface that was gleamingly clean. I was won over in an instant. Now this Bar Keepers Friend is my go-to cleaning product, regardless of the task at hand.

It cuts through grease on my stovetop and makes my favorite skillet look fresh from the box. Splatters and drips on my white walls and backsplash—the dangers of a tiny kitchen and questionable coffee maker placement—disappear in an instant. But while BKF is not non-toxic you cannot drink the stuff , it is approved for use on cookware and kitchen surfaces so long as you rinse everything well after cleaning.

While every other bottle under my sink gathers dust, I collect four-packs of the only product that matters, and never write off any mess as too much to handle. BKF means I can look directly at the bottom of my Dutch oven again, and I didn't have to scrub my fingerprints off to get there.

All in all, I'm calling that a W. Bar Keepers Friend is a powerful weapon! Friendly folks, as it turns out. Stainless steel sinks or even the exterior of appliances like fridges, stoves, and dishwashers; spot check in a corner first in case it has a special coating. Enamel-coated or lacquered Dutch ovens most people use it to clean the outside of their Dutch ovens, the BKF folks told me, which is what I did, but otherwise spot-clean it first to see how it goes on yours.

Uncoated cast iron lacquered or enamel-coated cast iron, like Dutch ovens, can usually take BKF. Sprinkle a little BKF on the troubled area or the entire surface of your nasty Dutch oven, add a few drops of water and make a paste. Let it sit for ONE minute. Scrub off. I did that with a stainless steel saucepan. And then I made the same fatal error with an enamel pot also a forbidden material, see list above.

The BKF scrubbed through the porcelain coating and now you can see a patch of the black iron underneath. There are three things going on in Bar Keepers Friend. I would have been much more attentive in chemistry if we were scrubbing old sheet pans.
