You are imposing restrictions for no reason other than imagined limiters. It would actually be a straightforward thing to make this change. Otherwise just earn gold on the realm that you play on the most. Gold needs to stay restricted to keep the gold farmers from more easily shuffling it around to other servers. Something I would like to see is maybe a way to turn unbound items into BOA items so you can send them to your other characters and only be usable by those characters.
