What does nearest intersection mean




















If no physically connected intersection is returned and the streets are separated by a distance within the tolerance, a near type intersection result is returned. Another type of disconnected intersection that is supported is a roundabout. A roundabout is formed when two or more streets connect to a circular roadway, which is often unnamed. The participating streets typically don't connect directly to each other, but when you search for them and they are within the distance tolerance, an intersection match is returned by the locator.

Sometimes there are multiple possible matches for an intersection search. This typically occurs when divided roads cross each other. A divided road consists of two street segments separated by a median.

In this scenario, there can be up to four equivalent intersection matches consisting of the same street names at different locations. The locator uses an ambiguous intersection tolerance with such searches to remove redundant intersection candidates from the results. The default ambiguous intersection tolerance is 30 meters. Specifically, if there are multiple intersection candidates with the same street names and different locations, and if they are within 30 meters of each other, the locator returns only one of the candidates.

Improve this question. I wonder if you could hack GDirections to do this? I am not sure, I ill have to dive in GDirections API to find out, but I have searched for the answer both google and google maps support groups and nobody really seem to know, if this is possible.

I was thinking you could get the walking directions to two points so that it would force you to turn on the first crossroad.

We need to consider intersecting counties because the nearest intersection might fall into a neighboring county, city or zip code.

For every source address range in the source county, we find the possible target intersecting ranges. A target intersecting range is identified as the line that intersects with the source range. For example, in the screenshot below, there are four edge records for intersections between First street and Mission street in San Francisco.

Each record of source address range to target address range is called EdgeRecordSet.
